New might not always be better in the latest clip for Titans.

While early marketing materials for DC’s Titans series might have been met with mixed reviews, this latest clip has almost every fan excited. It was confirmed earlier this year that Jason Todd, the second Robin would be appearing on the show. However, the latest video lets us see Curran Walters in action for the first time.

From the get-go, Todd is like a breath of fresh air from the previous marketing materials. Titans has been teased as a much darker an mature take on the young superhero team. Yet, this version of Robin is excited to the Boy Wonder, even calling it “the dopest gig ever”.

In a recent interview with IGNTitans showrunner Greg Walker talked about why Jason Todd is such a fun character on the series.

"“He’s completely seemingly unaffected by darkness – he kind of embraces it or walks right through it. He’s a breath of fresh air and that’s what I love about him, he’s got a punk rock, no-holds-barred attitude that’s massively unburdened. There’s a lot of energy that comes with that.”"

For anyone familiar with the comic books, Jason Todd has always been written as the more violent and vengeance-driven men to take up the mantle of Robin (although Damian Wayne does give him a run for his money). However, his arc as an anti-hero is a refreshing take compared to a lot of his other adopted siblings. Considering Dick appears to be torn apart by the violent life of a vigilante, it will be interesting to see the two brothers’ ideologies clash on the series.

Of course, it doesn’t look like the two will just disagree over their different fighting styles. They’re still brothers, and Todd is Dick’s effective replacement. Based on the short clip, it appears as though Titans will explore their sibling relationship. Especially since it seems like Bruce always Jason to drive the Batmobile, something the original Robin was never allowed to do.

While the video is pretty short, it’s still worth getting excited for. The original trailer from SDCC was a little underwhelming, but this makes it appear like the new series can still be a mature take with a few lighthearted moments.
