Brockmire: Tawny Newsome joins the third season
The upcoming third season of Brockmire on IFC will feature Tawny Newsome in a recurring role as Brockmire’s partner in the broadcast booth.
Fans are used to thinking of Brockmire as a lone wolf, a fringe figure on the edges of everything baseball. With the burgeoning podcast empire, he may need some help navigating the later innings.
Newsome, playing Gabby Taylor, has been described as a straightforward, blue collar type. She is a former NCAA Champion softball player, (softball?, ask Brockmire wryly) and his newest announcing partner. As far as we know, she is not playing a racist old white man or a cheeky J-school washout with no game knowledge. So this may work out, but it is doubtful he can hold things together for more than a couple innings and a pint in the announcing booth.
To contrast Brockmire’s naturally contentious nature, Newsome’s Taylor will be cast as a decent soul trying to make it in a male-dominated profession. Gabby has little patience or interest in letting Brockmire, derail her fledgling career. She is not above taking advice from a sage old wordsmith, however, and she does recognize and help him in his efforts to do the proper and civil thing.

IFC has announced Brockmire was renewed for Season 3 and Season 4, giving Brockmire a microphone until at least 2020. The IFC series stars Hank Azaria as the titular character, a disgraced announcer trying to revive his career after an infamous tirade on a live mic. Tyrel Jackson Williams and Amanda Peet bring a more lo, but not quite sober, approach to the series.
Brockmire started as a short Funny Or Die sketch, but has grown into a major league show. All episodes of Season 2 were directed by Mo Marable. The show’s executive producers are Azaria, Joel Church-Cooper, Marable, Tim Kirkby, and Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.
