Single Parents season 1, episode 18 recap: A Radiant Cloak of Sexual Irresistibility
The single parents deal with The Bachelor?
Single Parents is back from hiatus and the episode was a bit underwhelming. There was nothing wrong with the guys’ story this week, but Poppy and Angie get stuck in some free network advertising. Why would the series need a crossover with The Bachelor? How would two single moms with such a negative view on relationships ever buy into the authenticity of the reality series? While there’s a laugh or two in the story, it’s really just off-putting and throws the entire episode off.
Bachelor Night
After getting her ex-husband’s wedding invitation, Poppy begins to spiral into a funk. She calls Angie to inform her they’ll be having a girl’s night with The Bachelor, ballgowns, and wine. Right away, it’s hard to imagine Angie would want to drink wine and watch reality television in anything other than sweatpants. Nevertheless, the two get dressed up and very drunk before deciding they want to tell the contestants how dumb love is.

When they Uber to the mansion from the show, they’re easily able to walk in. No security or anything stop them and the women run into the host of The Bachelor. As someone who doesn’t watch the show, all I can really remember that his name is Chris. This guy takes the two to dip their legs in the hot tub and give them love advice. He encourages Angie to open herself up again despite heartbreak and for Poppy to look for the perfect man closer than she expects.
A Radiant Cloak of Sexual Irrestibility
Single Parents opens up the episode with Will saving bunny ears on the playground from a pretty brutal fall as well as a bee sting. Right away, he’s deemed the most attractive guy in town and all of the parents flock to him. Wanting to capitalize on Will’s new popularity, Douglas decides to take him and Miggy to his cub to flirt with women.
Things start going well for Douglas and Miggy right away. The latter finds a woman named Bobbi who flirts with Miggy hard. Meanwhile, Douglas is gathering up numbers left and right before Will decides to abandon the plan. Will notices his boss is sitting at a nearby table and the two wind up having a great discussion. She gets stood up on her date but maybe fate intervened by bringing Will to her table.

Unfortunately, Douglas comes by to reveal their true plan and she takes off. Will isn’t going to be deterred though because he’s looking for a connection with one woman not many. He encourages Douglas to start finding “the one” before heading to Tracy’s to plead his case. At her house though, he discovers she’s gotten back together with her boyfriend. Looks like Will is going to have to work harder to win her over!
In the meantime, Douglas sits in his closet trying to craft the perfect message for Poppy. She wakes up to see the little texting symbol and decides to call him. Like the perfect gentleman, Douglas drives to The Bachelor mansion to pick the girls up and it’s implied both he and Poppy are officially interested in each other.
The Mop Man
After weeks of not being included in the kids’ storylines, Rory finally gets invited to a sleepover. However, Graham’s girlfriend, Louisa, has to cancel after getting sick. The twins tell her dad they’ll call their own father before encouraging the group to sneak out instead. Sophie convinces them to go to school at night and spend the night.

There aren’t many scenes with the kids but it’s entertaining to find out Graham has a deep fear of the “mop man” who lurks the halls at the school. Rory only made the guy up to scare Graham but it seems to work. Considering the twins think Sophie is a huge nerd, she teams up with Graham to pull a great prank. They create a mop man who scares Rory when he wakes up which gives everyone a good laugh.
Meanwhile, Angie arrives at Louisa’s just as all of the kids assemble outside. She doesn’t realize they snuck away, and it’s a little shocking she doesn’t go inside to talk to Louisa’s dad. For now, it’s impressive they managed to get away with it.
