HBO’s Game of Thrones documentary reveals major plot spoiler protection

HBO aired a documentary about the last season of Game of Thrones Sunday, giving fans insight into how hard it was to keep it under wraps.

One week after the controversial Game of Thrones finale, it’s easy to forget that only a few months ago, the biggest worry Thronies had leaked scripts and multiple-filmed endings.

So, during HBO’s documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, which aired Sunday night, fans found out that the appearance of three past cast members on set for the final episode was meant to throw people off in case of leaks.

Two return characters asked to report to set were Jagen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) and The Waif (Faye Marsay). While their storyline was wrapped up back in season 6, they were significant to Arya’s background in becoming the killing machine she’d become. It was with their training she was able to eventually defeat the Night King during the last season.

More from Game of Thrones

That’s why it’s kind of funny that Vladimir Furdik who played the Night King was also brought back as a diversion. You all know by now, he died in episode 3.

The documentary was enlightening for me as a fan because it showed what production had to go through to not only bring the whole thing together but keep it secret from the rest of the world.

The showrunners even made sure most scripts were digitized and on iPads for the cast and crew. The only person to have a physical script was director David Nutter, and it was taken at the end of each day and locked in a safe.

Another thing that struck me was Kit Harington’s choice to not read the final episode’s script before the table read. That is some serious self-control! So, he found out in front of everyone that his character, Jon Snow, would be killing Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).

dark. Next. Game of Thrones: Jon, not Bran, had the best “story”

The documentary was great and I hope it gives fans some closure, especially the ones who are still having a difficult time.
