Chilling Adventures of Sabrina part 2, episode 9 recap: Chapter Twenty: The Mephisto Waltz

And just like that, we’ve reached the season two finale of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been quite the interesting journey in its second season, with some very strong episodes, and some not so much. But all in all, it was a pretty solid season with intense character development, especially for Sabrina. Homegirl is powerful AF and nobody can mess with her–I mean, nobody.

The episode begins with some background on Lilith’s past after she was kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Eventually, she runs into Lucifer and the rest is history. All we know is that Lilith was given the promise of having it all once the apocalypse came around, which makes sense as to why she has so much animosity towards Sabrina in the present day.

Can I just take a moment to say that Harvey, Roz, and Theo are the most badass mortal friends Sabrina could ever have? I mean, they literally rush through the gates of hell for her. If that’s not loyalty, then I don’t know what is.

Amidst all this madness in the season two finale of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lucifer/Dark Lord returns in his original handsome form to handle Blackwood and meet Sabrina. When Blackwood finally comes face to face with the Dark Lord, he’s crushed to find out he has failed in the Dark Lord’s eyes. This is pretty much the final nail in the coffin that is Blackwood’s sanity.

Sabrina and the rest of the Spellmans finally learn who Wardwell actually is (took them long enough!) as Lilith takes Sabrina to talk to the Dark Lord. Long story short, the Dark Lord wants the Horn of Gabriel to sound off so the gates of Hell open up.

Following this, Sabrina will become the Queen of Hell and be initiated through her coronation, and then do the Mephisto Waltz with the Dark Lord himself.

All of this leads to one very big revelation–Lucifer is Sabrina’s father. And if we’re talking about secrets spilling out, it turns out that Nick was working for Satan all along, but along the way fell in love with Sabrina. Classic, very classic. But wait, could Sabrina actually be Satan’s kid? According to Hilda, yes, very much so.

Apparently many years ago, Sabrina’s mother and father asked the Dark Lord for help in conceiving a child and when her mother did get pregnant, it was quite suspicious. My oh my, could Chilling Adventures of Sabrina get any more bizarre?

In a plot twist, we don’t see coming, Lilith comes to help Sabrina and co. and reveals that Sabrina just needs to attack the Dark Lord with iron directly on his back, where his wings once were. Of course, this plan fails because it’s a specific spear that will take down the Dark Lord–not iron. Sabrina has no choice but to blow the horn, but thanks to her mortal friends, a plan is concocted that will prevent the gates of Hell from opening.

Unfortunately, Blackwood is intent on making things worse for everyone. As if the Dark Lord being around wasn’t enough, blurg! It turns out that as Blackwood packs up to leave Greendale, he decides to poison the coven whom the Spellmans have to keep teleporting to save their lives. What a hot mess Blackwood has created!

The night of the coronation finally arrives, and viewers may have never guessed what would be heading our way–a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina musical performance! As the dancing commences, everyone breaks out in song as Sabrina tries to convince her “father” that he should give Greendale to her.

Unbeknownst to Lucifer, he’s in the midst of being taken down by Sabrina, her friends, and Lilith via the Acheron Configuration. Of course, this too doesn’t seem to contain Satan’s powers as expected so there’s only one thing left to do, according to Lilith. He will have to be trapped within a human body so Nick steps forward to volunteer as a vessel. R.I.P. Nick, you will be missed!

Things end up working out for everyone, more or less as Lilith becomes the Queen of Hell, Sabrina gets her powers back, and the O.G. Wardwell is returned to her humanly state. Meanwhile, Ambrose and Prudence set off on a mission to take down Blackwood and Zelda becomes the High Priestess of the Church of Night (yas, finally!).

That’s the end of part two, right? Nope, wrong, very wrong. Sabrina may have been upset with Nick, but she did not intend on giving him up the way she just did. So, what’s her game plan? Go to Hell and get Nick back. Alrighty, then. May the force be with you on that mission, Sabrina!

Until part three, friends!
