Jessica Jones might be over on Netflix but would Krysten Ritter ever reprise the character again?
While Netflix won’t be bringing back the Defenders anytime soon, many fans have held out hope that some of these actors could continue on once Marvel takes control again. However, a recent interview by TVLine with Krysten Ritter left Jessica Jones fans feeling disappointed.
The actress shot down a potential revival with her at the helm, saying that she felt like that chapter was finished.
“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so. I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”
Naturally, it wasn’t the reaction many viewers expected, especially since there have been pretty passionate campaigns for Hulu to pick up all of the Defenders series once the two-year limit is up. However, Ritter walked back the comments a little bit later when a fan asked her on Twitter whether she was truly finished.
It seems unlikely that Hulu does decide to save Jessica Jones, but it’s nice to hear Krysten Ritter won’t completely say no to returning. If the story was right, I’m sure she would at least consider taking on the character again.
Melissa Rosenberg also spoke in the TVLine interview and said there’s always a possibility of returning even if it’s a very very small one.
“I feel like this is a really complete, closed chapter. I mean, never say never. But I feel ready to tell all new stories.”
The cancellation didn’t come as much of a surprise considering Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil were all axed beforehand. Rosenberg was on her way out of Netflix with a new deal at Warner Brothers and it seemed unlikely that fans would want to see someone else leading behind the scenes. Nevertheless, the time to prepare at least gave the writers time to craft an ending they were confident could serve as a conclusion.
