Fear The Walking Dead season 5, episode 4 recap: Skidmark
By Ariba Bhuvad
Oh, how we missed Daniel on Fear The Walking Dead.
Fear The Walking Dead has brought back a fan-favorite character into our lives in the form of Daniel Salazar, and we couldn’t be happier. But, of course, he’s not exactly a happy camper after everything that happened with Ofelia. This anger comes to fruition when Charlie, Wendell, Sarah, and Strand decide they’re going to infiltrate Daniel’s home.
Charlie was the first one to go in with the plan being that she’d open up the gates once Daniel left his compound. Unfortunately, she chooses to hide in his truck in which he drives away with Charlie in tow. You see, Daniel is aware of Strand’s tricks and made sure to take off the plane gauges before driving away. Clever man, isn’t he?
Oh, and it turns out he knows Charlie is in the truck too and will do whatever it takes to save her from Strand. Come on, Daniel, Strand is a changed man now! You’ll see, just give him a chance! Whatever the case may be, it somehow works out as Daniel and Charlie start to bond and become friends. It ends up working in the group’s favor later, but we’ll get to that.

We all remember the kiddos and how they’re trying to deceive the whole group, but things get interesting in this episode of Fear The Walking Dead. After spending some time with Lucy, Alicia, and Morgan, Dylan is starting to realize they are not the bad guys, and they’re not the one tearing down their walker-barricades. It was someone else, and that someone else was right in front of Max and Annie who quickly had to find a place to hide.
Luckily for the two of them, Dylan came clean about the lies and Morgan and Alicia showed up right in time to save both Max and Annie. However, they ended up being surrounded by a group of angry children holding weapons. Say what?!
After realizing that walkers had broken into his compound, Daniel had to come up with a quick plan to save Charlie’s life. In a sort of Say Anything-move, Daniel took a stereo and led the walkers away from Charlie so she could make a narrow escape with the plane gauges in her possession. After everything, however, Strand wasn’t going to abandon Daniel and decided to swoop in to save his life at the last moment.
When the SWAT guns on Wendell and Sarah’s truck fail, Strand comes in with the plane and uses the propellors to take out all the walkers. It’s pretty gnarly, but nonetheless, a pretty cool Fear The Walking Dead scene. In the end, Daniel still decided to part ways from the group because being on his own was what he had become accustomed to. He simply couldn’t walk around with a group. Fair enough!
With the plane down once again, there were limited options on what to do next. That is until Dylan suggests they rebuild the plane just like the pilot did in The Little Prince. Not a bad idea, champ.
Oh, and by the way, those scary looking kids that were about ready to attack Morgan and Alicia? It turns out that they are just the kids of the adults who died back at the campground. At least they’re not murderous little villains, right?
And just as this episode of Fear The Walking Dead begins to wrap up, we see a helicopter emerge once again with a symbol we’ve all come to recognize. Who are these people? What do they want? And are they the ones that took Rick?! So many questions.
