You are cordially invited to a wedding, a wedding, a wedding, a wedding, and a…funeral July 31 on Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Four Weddings and a Funeral is coming to the small screen later this summer on Hulu, and the streaming service released a trailer to give people a taste of what’s to come.

The limited series from Mindy Kaling (The Office) will be an adaption of the beloved Richard Curtis movie with the same name, which starred Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant in his breakout role. While the film focuses on a group of British friends as they attend four weddings and a funeral, the series focuses on four American friends as they attend four weddings and a funeral.

The series stars Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) as Maya, Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re the Worst) as Craig, Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Ainsley, and John Reynolds (Stranger Things) as Duffy.

While the premise is similar to the film, I think this is a complete refresh especially since they will need to fit content into 12 episodes I don’t think we will see an event within each episode.

But one thing that will connect the film to the movie was the appearance of MacDowell. If you’re hoping to get an update on her character Carrie and her life with husband Charles (Grant), you may be disappointed to hear that she won’t be reprising her role but playing a new one.

Come on! This was a perfect opportunity to connect the original cast to this one! One of the stars could easily be Carrie and Charles’ kid!

Kaling wrote the script for the series, along with Matt Warburton (Champions and The Mindy Project).

After watching the Four Weddings and a Funeral trailer, what do you think about the new series? Do you think it has the potential to be as beloved as the movie?
