Young Justice: Outsiders season 3, episode 18 recap: Early Warning
By Monita Mohan
The Outsiders are trending around the US, but is it time to aim for a more global perspective on Young Justice when it comes to saving metahuman children?
#WeAreAllOutsiders has been trending for two weeks in the US. But the Outsiders are busy heading to Santiago de Cuba to fight another meta-human trafficking ring in the latest episode of Young Justice: Outsiders. Beast Boy and Geo-Force rendezvous with Wonder Girl and Static. In the meantime, Tara Markov, Forager, and Violet have more pressing matters—their last day of school before winter break. Ugh.

Bad News for Violet
Before they leave for Happy Harbour School, Dr. Helga Jace has something to tell Violet. Violet is immediately terrified that Brion has found out that Gabrielle was bribed into letting assassins into the Markov home. But that is not the problem—Helga has studied Violet’s DNA and learned something terrible. Violet is dying.

Every time Violet uses her aura to heal herself, she damages her overall health – her cells aren’t regenerating like they used to. She only has a few months to live. But Dr. Jace has a plan – she wants to consult her mentor for a solution. She is optimistic but both Dr. Jace and Violet decide not to inform the others. Why did Dr. Jace tell Violet all this before school, anyway? Her timing sucks!
Later, after school, Violet misses training with Artemis to spend time with her friend Harper Row, who apparently wants to be more than friends? Though both of these characters have boyfriends, that doesn’t stop Harper and Violet from sharing a kiss. That’s until Violet starts shooting a gun at some bottles and they get caught by a cop. M’Gann gets Violet out of jail, but Harper’s still stuck in there till her dad gets her out. Violet stays mum about her strange behaviour, though.
Meanwhile, Terra is struggling with memories of her training at the hands of Deathstroke. He wasn’t the kindest teacher and training with Artemis is giving her terrible flashbacks. We’re still uncertain what Terra’s orders from Deathstroke are, but a betrayal is probably in the offing on Young Justice: Outsiders.
Santiago de Cuba

In the Watchtower, Zatanna is deeply concerned that the Outsiders are going to Santiago de Cuba on their own. She goes to back them up, even though she’s Justice League and they do not have authorization to go to Cuba. Surely a witch can be a covert operative?
She had better be. Klarion the Witch Boy has a poor hapless metahuman in his clutches, and she isn’t even the first. He seems to be transforming the kidnapped metahumans children into some massive metahuman creature.
Bigger problems ahead, though. Non-meta reinforcements have been sent by the army, and the children are in danger. When the Outsiders, they first have to go through Klarion’s monster. This is not going to be easy. Fortunately, Zatanna arrives. But while she summons a spell, Klarion manages to zap Wonder Girl into the creature! It becomes bigger and stronger and it takes all of Zatanna’s power to save the metas. She also manages to send Klarion and his cat to the Tower of Fate. Good work, Zatanna.
When the Outsiders bring the rescued metas back to the League, Eduardo “Ed” Dorado Jr. decides to join the Outsiders. He may not want to be a hero like the others, but he needs to inspire the kids at Taos, and this is the way to do it. Better late than never – after the events at Santiago de Cuba, the Outsiders are trending all over the world on Young Justice: Outsiders. They are now an even bigger superhero name than the Justice League. Stay whelmed, everybody.
