Amazon renews the yet to be debuted series Carnival Row, starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, for a second season.

With the buzz the new Amazon Original The Boys has generated and its early renewal, Amazon is certainly going big this year. According to a report from Deadline, so is the case with Carnival Row. Less than few days after the show debuted its first look at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the show (starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, set to debut at the end of August) has already been renewed for a second season.

The series is set in a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose exotic homelands were invaded by men. This growing population struggles to coexist under the harsh laws of humanity. Vignette and Philo (played by Delevingne and Bloom respectively) rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society.

Vignette is also harboring a secret that endangers Philo’s world during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the peace of the Row.

During Comic-Con, Bloom hinted that the show will also dive into modern immigration laws. Despite being set in a fantasy world and Victorian era, it would relate to immigration in today’s society.

Though the show contains mature content, it is said to be eyeing a young adult and family audience.

The series is based on executive producer Travis Beacham’s feature script “A Killing on Carnival Row.” Beacham came up with the script during writing school and it has been under development for about five years.

Orlando Bloom, Marc Guggenheim, René Echevarria, and Jon Amiel are also serving as executive producers. The show is created by Amazon Studios and Legendary.
