Santa Clarita Diet pushes Joel to make a life-changing decision in hopes of saving his family, but will it work?

Santa Clarita Diet had an interesting third and final season, and with its odd twists and turns, I can’t help but wonder where they were hoping to take the story if the series would have been renewed for another season. I guess we’ll never know, will we?

Joel is still eager to locate Ron, who has been off the grid (sort of) ever since he got Gary to forcefully bite him causing him to turn. With social media pings and trackers in place, Joel is hoping to find him one way or another before it’s too late. Little does he know, it already is. The guy is bragging on his social media about being undead, so we’re not off to a great start.

Tommy is officially quitting the Knights of Serbia but before he does, he comes by the Hammond home to drop off a USB containing all the information he has on Sheila. Whoever comes in next to replace him would be privy to this information so he wants to get rid of it ASAP, and get his crossbow back. Tommy quitting the Knights gives Joel an idea that could help protect Sheila from them in the future. He could be Tommy’s replacement.

In order to be considered to be a Knight, Joel would have to go through a series of trials referred to as the Trials of the Ancients. He has to complete each task and record himself doing so, which is quite hilarious to watch. Abby is eager to help him but Sheila forces her to go volunteering with her while Eric helps Joel.

Some of the trials include “a tumbling man throws sharp object” and “stick a pear into a raw chicken”, which don’t quite make sense, but Joel rolls with it anyway like a trooper. You have to wonder where the Santa Clarita Diet writers got these ideas from. They’re so out there!

Unfortunately, Joel learns that even if he gets selected to be a Knight, the only way he can be one is if his firstborn swears to become his heir in the event something happens to him. That would mean Abby would replace him as Knight, which doesn’t exactly sound thrilling Joel or Sheila. Of course, Abby is completely on board.

Joel finally gets a ping on Ron’s location when his friend Morgan calls to say he’s been with him all day. However, this is far from the truth and in fact, Morgan has been turned by Ron and is hungry for some humans.

Before he can cause much damage or fool them, Abby shows up and reveals Morgan’s secret and winds up killing him before her parents can. Looks like Ron’s planning on turn the entire city undead, and that certainly won’t bode well for anyone on Santa Clarita Diet.
