It’s all about “Search and Rescue” on this week’s Preacher. Jesse is stranded, Tulip gets divine help, and Cassidy uses his hands. We’ve got the recap!

In the stinger for “Search and Rescue,” Herr Starr (Pip Torrens) and god (Mark Harelik) are having a cozy chat next to a fire with Diet Dr. Pepper. The Allfather is still irritated by the fact that God made him let Jesse (Dominic Cooper) go. He really wants to get even for the scar carved into his head, but God reminds him that he really wants Jesse to suffer. So, why not make Jesse really suffer? After that and the coming 2020 apocalypse, Herr Starr can get that which he values most returned to him: his good looks. Herr Starr is quelled but gets nervous when god asks about Humperdoo (Tyson Ritter). The Allfather assures god that Humperdoo is fine. Meanwhile, the cloning experiments are not working. Preacher knows how to tease an episode.

Gone Raftin’

The last time we saw Preacher his plane was experiencing extreme turbulence on its way to Australia. He was the only passenger. His Genesis converted and pantsless pilot, Steve (Ditch Davey), was trying to get Jesse to the phallic mountain so he could meet with god. During the turbulence, God appears in a seat ahead of Jesse’s and causes the plane to crash. Jesse and Steve miraculously survive. What’s even better? There’s an inflated raft next to them.

But, it’s pitch black and starts to rain. It’s heavy, Biblical type rain. Jesse is still pumped from the rush of surviving the crash. He’s trying to get the rising rainwater out of the raft before it sinks. Steve starts to freak out. Jesse uses Genesis to make Steve think positive. In a snap, Steve is asking Jesse why he isn’t getting the water out of the raft faster.

The next morning, in the beating sun, pantsless Steve is still positive. He’s so positive that he doesn’t fret the fact that his legs are severely sunburned. In fact, he’s burned all over. Jesse looks tanned, but he’s more covered up. It’s like there’s something keeping him safe. He’s shocked by Steve’s burns. He’s jarred by Steve’s positive attitude, so he uses Genesis to make him stop being positive. Steve instantly goes into a pained and frenzied panic mode.

Jesse uses Genesis to make Steve feel no pain. As Jesse covers up Steve’s wounds, he erects a makeshift sail that starts to work. While Jesse was working, Steve reclined and paddled water with his left hand. Yeah. Well. That hand? A shark eats it. But Steve doesn’t notice because he can’t feel pain. As Steve slowly dies in Jesse’s arms, he begs Jesse to save him with his power. Jesse tries to use Genesis by ordering Steve to live. But, he dies. Jesse wraps him up and tries to give him a dignified burial at sea. But, a shark eats the body during the prayer.

All of a sudden, Jesse starts to hear chatter. He turns around and sees a beach. The title card explodes on the screen: Australia. Jesse was being made to suffer during the whole ordeal with Steve. He paddles to the beach and continues his journey. Meanwhile, The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) decides that walking to Australia is going to take too long. So, he blows on the hammer of his gun until it heats to a bright red and fires a hole through the center of the Earth to Australia. When he and Arseface (Ian Colletti) emerge on the other side, they are mere feet from Jesse’s recently abandoned raft. The hunt continues.

He Could Use a Hand

The Allfather is planning for a summit that will discuss Apocalypse: 2020. Representing Heaven is Jesus Christ (Tyson Ritter). Representing Hell is Adolf Hitler (Noah Taylor). Masada is buzzing and many Grail folk are excited to meet Hitler. Meanwhile, Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) is being wheeled out Hannibal Lecter style to be shipped to Bensonhurst, where he will be repeatedly circumcised for eternity. He decides to make another escape. Will he actually leave Masada this time?

After dispatching the guards, Cassidy beats Frankie Toscani (Lachy Hulme) to a pulp with his own rifle. He then takes said rifle and rams it up Frankie’s poop shoot. Cassidy picks Frankie up and drops him forcibly into a sitting position on the gun, which triggers and blows the top of Frankie’s head clean off. Cassidy hits the button for the elevator. When the doors open, he’s face to face with Tulip (Ruth Negga). They share a smile. That’s long enough for Featherstone (Julie Ann Emery) to walk up and aim a gun at Cassidy’s head. He’s taken back into custody, but Tulip remains hidden behind the elevator doors.

Cassidy is concerned that Tulip is going to keep coming for him. Featherstone has set up a post near his cell so that any rescue attempt will be quickly squashed. He knows he must escape, so he pulls the skin off of his hands to get out of the cuffs and kills the Archangel (David Field). That’s not just to stop the Archangel from being a chatterbox. The blood will help Cassidy heal and the Archangel will return alive. He does and they fly out of Masada.

But, before Tulip finds that out, she is conscripted in the hallway to be the driver for a dignitary. That dignitary ends up being Jesus Christ. He knows that Tulip is in trouble and forgives the many lies she tells him. He tries to get Tulip in to see Jesse and avoid bloodshed, but Featherstone is having none of it. When Cassidy escapes. Tulip knows it’s time to split. She takes her wig off and starts to leave when Jesus asks if he can come along.

Also, Hitler bribes a Masada guard with a Luger and gains access to Humperdoo. Hitler immediately realizes that this clone is off. How will he use this as leverage over Herr Starr? It’s going to be big and bad. It’s Hitler. He runs Hell. There are appearances to keep up, you know.
