Season 2 of Yellowstone just ended but we’re already looking ahead to season 3!

While the next season of Yellowstone won’t air until the summer of 2020, the show is already in production and tidbits of news have trickled out.

Paramount Network has produced a video spotlighting key cast members discussing what we can anticipate when season 3 is released.

According to Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, after such an “intense and violent” season 2, season 3 will be a chance to heal with the characters. Meanwhile, Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, calls the new season “a nice reset.” And Kelsey Asbille, who depicts Monica Dutton, adds, “We begin with healing and peace and we’re more unified.”

In addition, Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, teases that we’ll get to see more of the love story between Beth and his character.

The third season will also include some exciting new cast members. Bentley notes there are going to be new female characters. In particular, there will be a new female cowboy in the bunkhouse who he says is “one of the funniest written characters that I’ve seen for a show like this.”

The biggest name to join the show next season is Lost‘s Josh Holloway. Kelly Reilly, who portrays Beth Dutton, calls working with him “a breath of fresh air.” Although Grimes is  concerned that Holloway’s character may hit on Reilly’s character, adding, “I just don’t think that’s a great idea, as we know.” We sure do!

The cast also teases there may be an even bigger adversary coming, and perhaps a new ally too — something we’ve come to expect on Yellowstone.

Meanwhile, following the second season finale, Yellowstone co-creator and executive producer, Taylor Sheridan spoke to Deadline about the future of the series.

He teased that in season 3, the series “really explores these relationships” between the characters. He explained that after two seasons fans really understand the characters, so now the show can delve into them further. He further elaborated:

"…now we can slow the world way down and look at what makes these people tick and keep putting them in situations that will show their true colors. I promise you next season, there are people on this show who are 100% not what they seem to be. And there are a few people who are exactly what you think they are but don’t believe they could actually be that. And it’s about figuring out who’s who."

Sheridan also noted that we’ll learn “just how damaged” Rip and Beth are in season 3, and the implications that’s had for their romance. In addition, he hinted that we’ll discover more about what Kayce really wants for himself, apart from the path laid out for him by his family.

And despite a respite in their rivalry, John Dutton and Thomas Rainwater’s fight will continue into Yellowstone‘s third season.

Based on everything we know so far, it sounds like season 3 will be very different but no less exciting. Gaining some deeper insight into the characters will be especially interesting. Maybe we’ll finally learn why Beth hates Jamie so much.

There are several long months before the new season, but it sounds like it will be worth the wait.
