Preacher is back with “The Lost Apostle.” Who is the missing follower? Is Jesse Dead? Did Tulip and Cassidy make it to Australia? We’ve got the recap!

There are a lot of possibilities for the identity of “The Lost Apostle.” The most central answer is the Twelve Apostles Marine National Park in Australia. That’s where a lot of the action takes place in this week’s episode of Preacher. “The Lost Apostle” was written by Gary Tieche (Medium) and directed by Jonathan Watson (Future Man). Jesse (Dominic Cooper) does get out of a pickle and gets put in a completely different pickle by episodes end.

Apocalypse 2020

First up, there’s the Apocalypse 2020 conference. Jesus (Tyson Ritter) and Hitler (Noah Taylor) are hammering out who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Both sides are driving hard bargains. Jesus is trying save everybody. Hitler wants to make line item trades. If deathbed converts are going to be allowed into heaven, Hitler wants the homosexuals to go to hell. That’s unacceptable. It’s a long and drawn out process, but at least the food options appear to be the bomb.

More from Show Snob

Speaking of bombs, to Herr Starr’s (Pip Torrens) delight, god (Mark Harelik) decides to move to phase two. That seems to include an atomic bomb. Perhaps the same atomic explosion that Jesse saw in “Masada.” Starr joins god at Lost Apostle. It seems to be his base. Starr is confronted over the whereabouts of the one they call Humperdoo (Tyson Ritter). Starr just wants his beauty back. He tries to blame Jesse for losing Humperdoo. A feral dog shows up and appears to castrate Starr.

The Americans

Did Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) make it to Australia? You bet your grits they did! They show up at a police station asking to speak with the man in charge. When they gain access, they are informed that Jesse seems to have been killed. There’s no body. But there is a suspect. Tulip and Cassidy through their weight as The Americans to get an interview with none other than Eugene (Ian Colletti). They can’t believe it. But Arseface owns up to it. He says that if Jesse isn’t dead, he’s actually worse off.

And Eugene is right. The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) has Jesse. He removes the bulletts and they march onwards towards god. The Saint of Killers wants to kill him. Jesse says he won’t allow that. Jesse disarms The Saint of Killers and aims his six shooters at him. It’s the moment from the opening credits. But, when Jesse pulls the triggers, nothing happens. Those guns only work for The Saint of Killers.

Meanwhile, Tulip and Cassidy are at a dinner regrouping after nearly missing Jesse at a gruesome crime scene left by The Saint of Killers. Tulip is on edge. Cassidy wants some drugs. Tulip gives Jesse’s letter to Cassidy to read. She uncomfortably twists and turns as he reads it. He suggests she read it. But, he doesn’t think it’ll help them find Jesse. Tulip wanders off and finds god’s work trailer with a postcard for Lost Apostle. She picks up Cassidy who’s been sniffing fire-retardant for a high. With Tulip piloting, they steal a plane and go to get Jesse.

Too Easy

Tulip and Cassidy are able to pick up a running Jesse to The Saint of Killer’s chagrin. They all share an extremely uneasy reunion. But, things seem to be ok, until they realize they were led to Lost Apostle. As Tulip tries to bank the plane away from the national marine park, god forces a wave of fire at them. Jesse is tossed from the plane. He’s barely holding on to Cassidy’s arm, which begins to burn in the sun. Cassidy begs, but Jesse uses Genesis to make Cassidy release him. Jesse falls flat on his face in the shot we saw in “Masada.”
