Grace and Frankie renewed for a final season and sets season 6 premiere date

Grace and Frankie will officially end with season 7.

The beloved Netflix comedy couldn’t last forever but it will go out on top. Deadline reports that Grace and Frankie will end with its seventh season, making it the longest running Netflix original. The Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin series will have a total of 94 episodes after it officially comes to a close.

The streaming service also confirmed the comedy will return for its sixth season in January 2020. Alongside both Fonda and Tomlin, the returning cast members include Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen, June Diane Raphael, Brooklyn Decker, Baron Vaughn, and Ethan Embry for seasons 6 and 7.  Showrunners and executive producers, Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, will also be be back for the upcoming seasons.

Fonda and Tomlin both issued a positive statement with the recent news.

"We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season. We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well.  We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around. We’ve outlasted so many things – just hope we don’t outlast the planet."

Grace and Frankie focuses on the friendship between the two titular characters who go from begrudging acquantices to the best of friends. They’re forced to get along after their husbands leave them for each other and move into a jointly owned beach house. The series follows the ups and downs of both families as everyone begins to put their lives back together.

Both critically and commercially, the show has been a major success. It’s been a huge hit with fans and amassed a large number of nominations. So far, Grace and Frankie has a total of 11 Emmy nominations, 6 SAG nominations, and a Golden Globe nomination. With the final two seasons now confirmed, it will undoubtedly scoop up some more.
