A Million Little Things season 2, episode 9 recap: Time Stands Still
By Ariba Bhuvad
A Million Little Things delivers an emotionally riveting fall finale.
A Million Little Things fans, grab your tissue boxes before watching this one. I cried, I wept, and I smiled when the moment called for it. But before I get into the heart of the recap, I’d like to preface it with a statement. The contents of this episode deal with depression and suicide, so if you or anyone you know may be triggered, please be advised before watching the episode or reading this recap.
There were a lot of emotions flowing through the fall finale of A Million Little Things and we have quite a bit to discuss. We last left off with P.J. and Delilah learning the truth about his parentage. It’s a shocking reveal for Delilah considering she’s already grappling with the Charlie situation. But alas, the truth is out, and now the consequences of it start to unravel.
P.J. leaves his house and with nowhere to go, he turns to Delilah. Surprisingly, she’s very receptive and open to him and even shares some of Jon’s belongings with him. But there’s only so long she can keep him entertained so she calls in reinforcements–Rome.
After P.J. finally goes back home to confront his parents, he and Mitch realize that Barbara lied about who P.J.’s father is. Mitch has no idea that it wasn’t her ex, but in fact, it was Jon’s baby she was pregnant with.

And while we’re talking about heartbreaking moments, we have to talk about Maggie and Gary. All season long, the distance between them has grown. Despite attempts to make things better, it’s only gotten worse. Which is why it tore me apart when the two of them decided to call it quits. Well, it’s more Gary’s decision than anything.
Sadly, Maggie found an engagement ring while looking for her passport. But Gary wasn’t trying to propose, at least not then anyway. He wanted to propose to Maggie while she was sick, and he’s still willing to. But clearly it’s not what Maggie wants. Blurg.
When Maggie was dealing with her cancer treatment, the two shared a bond. But now that she is cancer-free, Maggie wants to continue to explore her life and what that means. Gary isn’t there with her and is still treating her like she’s sick, which is why things have been so awful between them. It doesn’t help that Maggie’s trying to move to England, which doesn’t work out for her, unfortunately.
By the end of this A Million Little Things episode, Gary and Maggie definitely do break up–and I’m not sure we’re going to come back from this. But we sure can hope!
On the Delilah/Eddie/Catherine front, things are still a hot mess. So much so that Eddie and Catherine are willing to take legal action to secure paternity rights. Luckily, they don’t have to do anything of the sort. Delilah finally puts Eddie’s name on Charlie’s birth certificate–and then tells her kids the truth. And let’s just say, the reaction is not what anyone would have wanted.
Just as Eddie and Catherine sit down to tell Theo the truth, they hear a noise coming from the garage. Whoever could it be? Oh, just Sophie breaking all of his guitars as she expresses her anger and hurt for what he and her mother did.
The fall finale takes us to a dark place. Which is where I must advise anyone reading this once again if you or anyone you know suffers from depression or suicidal thoughts, please be advised of the content ahead.
Everything P.J. has been through has brought him to a very dark and depressed state. With all the emotions he’s experiencing, he goes up to the roof and appears to be suicidal. It’s Rome who talks him off the ledge, literally and shares the pain that P.J. is feeling.

It’s such a powerful scene, and it takes A Million Little Things to the next level. Bravo to Chandler Riggs for doing one hell of a job! I’m so incredibly impressed with how well he did. It was a difficult scene to watch but watching Rome empower and help P.J. through it was inspiring.
Watching and listening to her husband help another, Regina feels that she too wants to help save someone one day. Looks like Rome and Regina are going to be adopting a baby in the new year–yay!
The fall finale is one of the strongest episodes, if not the strongest, of A Million Little Things. They outdid themselves, which can only mean the new year will bring something bigger and better.
Until next year, folks!
