True Detective Season 2: Everything we know right now

The second season of the hit HBO series True Detective is right around the corner but it’s been hard to keep up on all the rumors this summer.

From Brad Pitt being set to star, to Matthew McConaughey possibly returning and even the show ending after just two season, the truth is starting to rise to the top.

If you’ve had trouble keeping up with the True Detective rumors, then never fear as we have all the information you need to know up to this point about the second season of the show. Things can change at any minute, but True Detective is coming together and fans couldn’t be more excited.

Main Cast

After a summer of hearing just about everyone in Hollywood mentioned as being in the running for the lead role, things have simmered down. The cast is finally coming together as True Detective seems to have found its leads.

Only two names have been confirmed bu both Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams are circling roles on the show.

"So far only two names have been confirmed to be joining the cast of the show, as Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have been booked to take two of the four main leads. The other two leads are up in the air though, as about seven or eight actresses are begin rumored for the female lead on the show."

Plot/Story

The plot of the film seems to be about to transportation system in California and some deceptive things that go on, but there are other elements that hint at a more expansive story than a single mystery.

"The story is rumored to involve the occult of the transportation system in California, but the casting announcements have led to character details that shed light on extra bits of story. There seems to be a plot involving Colin Farrell covering something up, Vince Vaughn is trying to go from street crime into legitimate business and both Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams are playing straight roles with personal demons."

Setting

This is the most obvious of all the information given as it’s been hard fact for a while. But still, the show manages to have some mystery about where the series will be set this second time around, as exact locations aren’t yet known.

"The latest rumor has True Detective being set in California, just outside of Los Angeles but not in the city itself. There’s a good chance that Colin Farrell’s character is based out of Los Angeles, but just like the first season there will be plenty of small town love on set."

Director

So far only one name has been confirmed for the series. Justin Lin, of Fast and Furious fame, is set to direct the first two episodes of the show. Beyond that, there isn’t much known about who could direct but something is likely to be settled on soon.

"Fast and Furious director Justin Lin has been confirmed to be helming the first two episodes of the show, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess. There have been names mentioned, but nothing definitive has been settled on as to who will take over directing after Lin finishes up his stint with the show."

When will True Detective return?

This is the biggest mystery of all so far as a slew of different dates have been mentioned. Summer of 2015 seems to be a real option, especially if production doesn’t pick up before Novemeber but it’s not the firs tchoice of the network.

HBO would likely prefer the most recently mentioned date as January 2015 is the date that many are circling as the premiere date of the show — for now.
