Don’t panic if Colin Farrell doesn’t replicate Matthew McConaughey’s success
By Josh Hill
The first season of the hit HBO series True Detective was defined by the performance by Matthew McConaughey. He was nominated foe an Emmy, he was rebuilt his career and many believe that his role and the hype about it helped him win an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

All of this has but a shine on True Detective that makes it attractive to actors, but how many can really spin a new career out of being on the show? McConaughey might have very well been an anomaly — or just that damn good — but Colin Farrell could be in for a career defining role.
But what we need to acknowledge is that it’s okay if he’s not good in the show, or even just average. After all, McConaughey was a comet streaking across the sky and has burned out. That’s not to say he has burned out, but the massive popularity of that role and that period of time in his career is over, and it may not be replicated ever again.
