Five Reasons True Detective Season 2 Will Have a Strong Premiere

The second season of True Detective isn’t set to premiere until January, but we’re expecting it to take off quicker than the first. Lets’ be honest: people tuned int the first season at first mainly because of the star power. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey doing dramatic television work is a mighty pull. Here are our five reasons why season two will blow it all out of the water:

More from HBO

  1. Star Power – This is technically cheating, but still very important. We’re loosing McConaughey and Harrelson, but we’re gaining Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and possibly Rachel McAdams. Farrell has the largest pull here, and you can be sure that the amount of people that will leave due to the loss of Rust and Marty will be offset by gains due to Farrell.
  2. Vince Vaughn – Vaughn gets his own entry because he is in the same boat that McConaughey was in. People are hoping that True Detective will help revitalize Vaughn’s career. As of right now Vaughn is season two’s wild card, and people will watch just to see how it goes.
  3. Emmy wins – True Detective took home a few Emmy’s in 2014, but ultimately lost in Best Dramatic Series and Best Actor. The fact that True Detective was mentioned at all at the Emmy’s is bound to bring in curious viewers.
  4. Hugely Pirated – After the Emmy’s, piracy rates for True Detective skyrocketed because people were curious about what all the hubbub was about. Word has spread, and many of those pirates will be watching in January now that they’re hooked. Why wouldn’t they be?
  5. It’s totally different – Season two will be completely different from the first, and not only will there be fans returning to see how it all shakes out but new viewers as well to see the changes. Anthology series are in, after all.
