True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga Will be a Sundance Jury Member
Even Cary Fukunaga won’t be returning to direct True Detective’s second season, that doesn’t mean the man won’t be busy. The Sundance Film Festival is set to take place next month and they’ve just released the names of their jury members which include Fukunaga.
Cary Fukunaga will be judging the dramatic features at the 2015 Sundance Festival. He will be joined by film editor Sarah Flack, Edgar Wright (of Shaun of the Dead and The World’s End fame,) and Wynona Rider.

The fact that Fukunaga would not be returning for True Detective’s second season was one of the first pieces of information that we learned after the first season ended.
Fukunaga has so far been keeping bus with his own films, such as his Edris Elba staring Beasts of no Nation and an upcoming IT reboot.
Cary Fukunaga stepped back as director of True Detective to take an Executive Producer role, freeing him up to work on his own material while still being minimally involved with True Detective.
Earlier this summer there were rumors circulating that relations were tense between Fukunaga and writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto, though Pizzolatto has denied this.
Fukunaga will be missed on True Detective but we wish him luck in his future work, including this upcoming Sundance gig.
