There was a Small True Detective Gathering at the Golden Globes After Party

The Golden Globes was not a cause for celebration for True Detective. Fargo took home the win in every category that the two were competing in and Michelle Monaghan didn’t get Best Supporting Actress. The after party, however, may have been something of a different story.

Variety reported on the Golden Globes after party play-by-play style, diligently writing about what all the stars were up to. For True Detective fans, something very interesting happened at around 10:30 PM PST.

At that time, Variety reports, Vince Vaughn and Matthew McConaughey made their way through the crowd to talk. They were soon followed by True Detective creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto, and had an impromptu meeting for the better part of an hour.

What they were discussing is a mystery, but it’s exciting to imagine the True Detective stars discussing season two, or even how McConaughey approached his role in season one. Variety notes that the group was “thick as thieves.”

Even though Colin Farrell was a presenter at the awards (and sporting a new True Detective mustache) he didn’t join in the conversation. Funnily enough, the Golden Globes was the first public look that we’ve gotten at Vaughn and Farrell since filming began. Even if it was just as award presenters.

The True Detective set has been very private, with only a few leaks emerging. The fact that the Golden Globes was technically the first real look that we’ve gotten of the two leads is very much a reminder of that.
