Sometimes good news just happens to follow after bad news. Hot off a total loss at the Golden Globes, True Detective has been nominated for yet another award. This time it’s the DGA awards — Director’s Guild of America.

True Detective’s first season director, Cary Fukunaga, is nominated for the episode “Who Goes There?” under Dramatic Series. The first season of True Detective featured some stunning direction, so it’s not surprising to see it get a nod from the DGA.

The full list of Dramatic Series nominees:

  • Dan Attias, Homeland, “13 Hours in Islamabad.”
  • Jodie Foster, House of Cards, “Chapter 22”
  • Cary Fukunaga, True Detective, “How Goes There?”
  • Lesli Linka Glatter, Homeland, “From A to B and Back Again”
  • Alex Grave, Game of Thrones, “The Children.”

You’ll notice that Homeland is nominated twice under two different directors. True Detective didn’t have that same chance since the entire first season was directed by Cary Fukunaga, but we may see multiple nominations in the future.

“Who Goes There?” is one of True Detective’s strongest episodes, regardless of the fact that True Detective is outnumbered by Homeland. It’s worth pointing out that Fargo is not nominated, perhaps boosting True Detective’s chances. Fargo already beat the stuffing out of True Detective at the Golden Globes.

The DGA awards showcase excellent direction, and Fukunaga certainly brought that to True Detective’s first season, creating a unique tone and look. The DGA Awards will take place at a dinner on February 7th.

In case you’re starting to lose track, True Detective is nominated at the SAG awards, PGA awards, and DGA awards.
