The DGA Awards Offer True Detective One Last Shot

True Detective’s current losing streak for its first season is bound to go down as one of the great award snubs. But before that happens True Detective has one more solid shot at an award this season. The DGA awards will take place on February 7th, and True Detective is nominated.

Direction is actually one category that True Detective has had some success in. Although the cast of True Detective has been continually snubbed, the one big win that did come from this past summer’s Emmy awards was for first season director Cary Fukunaga. Fukunaga took home a well-deserved win for Best Director.

The DGA awards will be True Detective’s final shot at an award for its first season. Its current losing streak is practically something to be in awe of, so hopes aren’t exactly high. But they’re not at an all time low either.

True Detective’s direction has been universally acclaimed, and Fukunaga has not been a part of the controversies that may or may not have marred True Detective’s chances in the past.

Between Homeland, House of Cards, and Game of Thrones, True Detective faces stiff competition at the DGA awards. It’s a shame that its come down to downright expecting True Detective to lose when it comes to acting, but it’s fortunate that direction has successfully avoided that trend.

One outcome from being in the golden age of televisions is that there are so many worthy competitors, and that makes for some seriously though competition. We formally wish True Detective all the luck in the world at the DGA awards, and hopefully we won’t have to write another post reporting a loss.

There have been many of those.
