This is the first footage of True Detective season two that we’ve seen so far, but it’s far from the first time we’ve seen these characters. We’ve been getting leaked photos practically since filming began several months ago and considering that they’re still coming, filming may not be entirely wrapped yet.

But still, a teaser is a reason to celebrate and that’s exactly what we mean to do. While we tear through every second of it, of course.

The teaser opens up with a shot of a California highway quickly followed by a contemplative looking Rachel McAdams. We’ve seen McAdams on the set of True Detective many times by now. The clip is stuffed to the gills with haunted people giving meaningful looks, especially Taylor Kitsch — who looks like he bulked up for the part — at 0:06.

The most powerful moment in the teaser arguably stars at 0:13, which features a moustached Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) sitting across from a calm, yet menacing looking Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn.) It’s a very spine-tingling moment as these two characters are on opposite sides.

We also get a very nice shot of Kelly Reilly at 0:24. She’s not one of the four leads, but she does have a significant role as Frank Semyon’s wife. Starting at 0:27 we see pieces of Taylor Kitsch getting into a fight with a group of unknowns that switches to a rough-housing Vince Vaughn.

The teaser is filled with conflict. Would it be True Detective if it weren’t? The star of it all, however, is Vince Vaughn. Through these short snippets it’s not difficult at all to see him as a powerful villain; the menace that his character exudes is almost palpable. Farrell’s Ray Velcoro almost looks like putty in his hands.

Starting at 0:46 we get a great shot of Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, and Taylor Kitsch all together that leads into perhaps a burglary that may or may not involve them.  Very early reports told us that this season would not be as dark as the first, but this teaser make that difficult to believe. Regardless of how it shakes out, we’ll be here to see it through to the end.

Next: True Detective's second season will premiere on June 21st.
