T. Bone Burnett is Involved with True Detective Season Two

The recent Q&A that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto did with Medium was short. Painfully short. It was the first word from Pizzolatto that we got for some time, and it definitely speaks to the man’s private nature. There were, however, a few juicy bits to be found in there.

Including the name T. Bone Burnett.

The question of True Detective’s music has been one that’s been hanging almost since the first season endedTrue Detective being as secretive a production as it is, answers were not forthcoming.

Until now, sort of. In the aforementioned Q&A Pizzolatto was asked about the music in the season two teaser trailer. His answer was very interesting:

"“That’s one of several original songs developed with T-Bone Burnett, as original music plays a much greater role this season. The reasons for that are probably best explained by seeing the show, but these songs will be revealed in full at a later date.”"

That answer is notable for a few of reasons. One, is that he didn’t mention Lera Lynn at all. Two, he mentioned that T. Bone Burnett composed original songs for season two, and three, it feels like PR speak. In a Q&A that felt genuine, this answer stinks of “approved language.” But maybe we’re just looking into it too much.

The important part is that T. Bone Burnett will be involved with the second season of True Detective, and Nic Pizzolatto officially confirmed it. The fact that True Detective’s second season will utilize more original music may mean that we’ll actually get a soundtrack for it.

Or, you know, maybe not.
