The Cannes Film Festival wraps up in two days. It’s always a great spot to get interviews with celebrities who may have films up for sale. Cannes also saw the premiere of Matthew McConaughey’s new drama, Sea of Trees, but he’s not the only True Detective actor in town for the event.

Colin Farrell is also attending Cannes, and People were able to grab him for a few minutes for a video interview. And of course, True Detective was the hot topic.

Just like every other actor involved with True Detective, Colin Farrell is unable to divulge any series detail. But he’s also the one who seems to be the most pragmatic.

As Colin Farrell tells it, it’s the material that attracted him to True Detective more than anything else. Even though he’d apparently promised that he’d “never play a cop again.” Farrell read two scripts and was in. He comes off as being excited for the project, but more dialed down than Rachel McAdams or Abigail Spencer.

After talking about the strength of the material, Farrell even ends on a “we’ll see,” perhaps to keep expectations based more in reality. You can watch the clip over at People and decide for yourself how Colin Farrell comes off.

Most of the True Detective leads have been snagged for short little interviews like this, but it always comes down to the same thing: they’re excited, but can’t say anything. Fortunately we won’t have to wait too much longer until we get to see what the big secret is all about.
