Fargo’s Second Season is Getting Amazing Early Buzz

Fargo and True Detective have something of a shared history. Their respective first seasons both aired around the same time, and there was a bit of a rivalry going on between FX and HBO. That changed once it was time for second seasons — True Detective aired over the summer, and Fargo is coming up in a few short days. The early reviews for Fargo season two can really only be described as “ecstatic.”

That’s just one picture painted by Rolling Stone, anyway. Unlike True Detective season two, Fargo’s early reviews are off the charts. Fargo seems to have found a way to go both darker and deeper without sacrificing what made the first show so great. True Detective attempted a similar feat, but it didn’t over quite as well.

It’s questionable whether early reviews of dramas do more good than bad, as the early bad reviews for True Detective likely set a certain tone going forward. If these reviews remain high for the entire season, it’s possible that True Detective season three will have to go up against Fargo regardless of setting. Because of their drastically different air dates, True Detective season three will likely be compared to this season of Fargo, rather than Fargo’s possible third season.

The first season of Fargo arguably offered up a more cohesive story than True Detective, and both were nominated for Emmys. Even though season two didn’t fare as well, it’s possible that we will once again see both at the Emmys in 2016.   Fargo and True Detective are both excellent shows, and hopefully they will be able to stay that way in the future.

Next: True Detective season three needs a strong villain.
