Idris Elba Jokes About Being in True Detective Season Three

In a new interview, Idris Elba could see himself in True Detective. Sort of.

Cary Fukunaga has been busy getting interviewed by the likes of Michael Moore, so now Beasts of no Nation actor Idris Elba has stepped up to the plate. True Detective isn’t exactly something we’d expect to come up in an interview with Idris Elba, but sometimes life is surprising that way.

In an interview with The Huffington Post discussing his work in Beasts of no Nation, Idris Elba was asked about working with Cary Fukunaga. Basically, he’d do it again in a heartbeat :

"“…He gave me a lot of sort of license to build my character, and he’s one of the best directors in the world and a future star. He deserves an Oscar, no doubt. And I’d love to work with him again. We built a special bond over making this film and I hope we continue to make films for the rest of our lives.”"

That’s a huge compliment. It’s also not out of the realm of possibility that Cary Fukunaga could win an Oscar for Beasts of no Nation considering the nominations for the Independent Spirit Awards. That statement about continuing to work with Fukunaga led directly into True Detective season three, which we already know Cary Fukunaga won’t be helming.

Idris Elba, however, is a bit more open:

"“True Detective” Season 3 … I like the way you’re thinking!”"

It should go without saying that Idris Elba would be phenomenal in in True Detective. The man is Luther, after all. It’s also nice that he doesn’t take the opportunity to give True Detective grief, unlike some people.

Next: Cary Fukunaga talks with Michael Moore.

If Cary Fukunaga ever returns to True Detective, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for him to bring Idris Elba with him.
