That Pokemon and True Detective Mashup You Ordered is Here (Video)
Pokemon has a new mystery game in the pipeline, so obviously there had to be a True Detective version.
Over the last couple of years, True Detective has had a huge number of mashups. To clarify, we’re specifically talking about True Detective’s celebrated first season. Although True Detective season two has had spoofs in the form of mashups, it hasn’t gotten anywhere the same amount of attention that season one has, and someone continues to get.

For those not in the know, a rather unconventional Pokemon game is in the works and had its first trailer released recently. The new game, titled Great Detective Pikachu, casts the famous Pokemon mascot as a Sherlock Holmes-esque detective. Why not? After its debut, it was only a matter of time until someone came along and True Detective‘d the whole thing up.

Set to the first season’s opener, “Far From Any Road,” some of it, especially the opening seconds, works especially well. As if Pikachu was secretly one of the detectives all along and we just never realized it. The yellow mouse was made for this sort of dirty work.
The whole thing starts to lose the plot a bit when actual game footage is shown inside of a Nintendo 3DS, but most of it works well. For a trailer that wasn’t specifically edited in any way to play to the True Detective theme, we’ve definitely seen worse.

With that in mind, someone should really step up and make a true Pokemon and True Detective mashup. The first season has been over for years, what’s the hold up?
