This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.

Even though there’s not anything to report on the True Detective season three front, the actors from past seasons have been keeping themselves busy. Rachel McAdams has the Oscar nominated Spotlight, for instance. Matthew McConaughey has also had has schedule slightly cleared a bit due to a recent delay announcement.

First up, we took another look at HBO’s reluctance to actually talk about True Detective season three. It’s fully possible to at least publicly renew it without rushing it into production, but at this point it looks like they’re going to wait until all of the ducks are in a row. We also wondered if True Detective was destined to be a one hit wonder. Spoiler alert: probably.

Awards are a difficult topic to ignore since it does happen to be the season. To that end, Idris Elba won a SAG for his work in Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of no Nation and Rachel McAdams was honored for her role in film Spotlight. Matthew McConaughey’s The Stand, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, has officially been indefinitely shelved. Shocking, right?

True Detective should take a page from the Jessica Jones book in how to handle a villain. No, True Detective isn’t about the actual case, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a villain that’s at least halfway to being compelling. Talking about the future of True Detective, HBO’s head of drama is on his way out.

Nothing is known about season three yet, and one of the things we’re wondering is whether or not it will have multiple directors.

David Morse, who payed Ani Bezzerides’ father on True Detective, recently spoke to the AV Club about the intense secrecy that surrounds the series. It sounds like a overexaggeraton found in a novel, but it’s all true.

Next: Rachel McAdams honored at film festival.

And finally, a fan found the actual True Detective soundtrack — you just have to buy the vinyl version to get it. There are no award shows this weekend, but we can always be reached on Twitter and Facebook.
