What to expect from Jessica Jones season 2

It’s been almost three years since Jessica Jones swooped in and stole viewers’ hearts with her hard-drinking lonely lifestyle.

Luckily, the wait is almost over because this P.I. opens her doors back up March 8 on Netflix to take on new cases. While the streaming service has been careful to keep any news about the highly anticipated series under wraps, a few key details have leaked out as the premiere date gets closer.

A bit of Casting news that fans will be excited about is the return of fan-favorite villain, Kilgrave to the series, despite dying in last season’s finale.

David Tennant played the manipulative character so perfectly that it was impossible to not want him to come back. However, he was the source of Jessica’s trauma and it looks like he’ll continue to mentally torture her throughout the second season. Whether he returns in only hallucinations, dreams, or flashbacks is unclear but rest assured, Kilgrave will be back.

He’ll be joined by a whole slew of new cast members this year, including Oscar-nominated actress Janet McTeer. Whether she becomes a villain is unclear but rumors have been circulating about her new costar, Leah Gibson.

Her character, Ingrid, is supposed to be a street-smart nurse, however, rumors have been circulating she’ll actually be playing the Daredevil antagonist Typhoid Mary. She has a dissociative disorder with three different distinct personalities as well as a large range of psionic powers.

A final new cast member is played by J.R. Ramirez, the new superintendent in Jessica’s building. His character, Oscar, is a single dad to a son who immediately admires his heroic neighbor and a presumed love interest for the surly private eye.

Of course, long-time fans of Jessica Jones will want to know what her relationship with Luke Cage will be like. After The Defenders, it’s clear the two will remain friends and in touch with one another while protecting their part of New York. However, he’s dating Claire Temple so it looks like the pair will hold off on any romantic interaction. Colter did speak to MCU Exchange, a site for Marvel news only, who promised a much darker season two for the series.

The most buzz for the second season of Jessica Jones is Trish’s evolution into Hellcat. In the comics, Patsy Walker becomes the crime-fighter Hellcat, clad in a bright yellow catsuit. She definitely won’t be suiting up into any skin-tight costumes right away, but set pictures have shown her defending Malcolm in a yellow shirt.

With Krysten Ritter filming the show alongside The Defenders, it makes sense the series would allow Trish to take more of a central role. Rachael Taylor quickly became a fan favorite as the hopeful foster sister/best friend to Jessica’s darker side.

Finally, what should viewers expect from Jessica in season two?

She defeated her nemesis but, the real battle will be overcoming the trauma she endured. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg was quick to confirm that the series will still be tackling the long-term effects of Jessica’s abuse rather than just letting it fall to the wayside after beating Kilgrave.

However, the series set up a plot thread last season involving the mysterious company IGH, which funded both Jessica’s and Will Simpson’s (Daredevil villain Nuke)  medical bills. She’s definitely going to be following this lead to try and discover what they know about her powers as well as the accident where she got them.

The first season of Jessica Jones was one of the best, if not the best, of the Marvel Netflix shows. It was a much slower pace, which focused on the psychological effects of being controlled by someone else. The sophomore run is shaping up to be even better, with a lot of supporting characters finally getting their own storylines.
