Amazon’s new superhero adaptationThe Boys, has added Karen Fukuhara as a series regular.

The Suicide Squad actress joins an already impressive cast including Antony Starr and Erin Moriarty. Unlike other superhero shows, this story exists in an extremely dark and violent world.

Fukuhara has already shown off her fighting skills as Katana, but she will embody a whole new level of ruthlessness.

Screen Rant reports that Karen Fukuhara is tasked with playing the character Female, a deadly assassin with dangerous powers. In the comics, she is almost entirely mute and mysterious who follows her instincts despite the carnage. It appears like The Boys is planning to keep these aspects of her character, as well as develop a deep friendship between her and Frenchie.

The Boys isn’t expected to hit Amazon until 2019 but comic book fans are already excited to see the world come to life. Fukuhara shouldn’t have a problem bringing her stunt work to the show, especially after being underutilized in Suicide Squad.

Originally created by Garth Ennis (who also wrote Preacher), the television show is being helmed by Eric Kripke. The Supernatural and Timeless creator doesn’t have much experience with R-rated material which is a bit disconcerting for fans of the source material. It would be a shame to see the storyline toned down considering how gritty Ennis’ writing is.

Set in a world where superheroes are celebrities with dark compulsions, a group of vigilantes makes it their mission to take them down. Known as “The Boys,” they all have personal reasons for joining the fight. Karen Fukuhara will be an ally of the team, intent on stopping all of the suffering the heroes cause.

The television show will definitely not be meant for younger audiences, and being on a streaming service means it can go pretty dark. Amazon announced that filming is expected to begin soon with the series ultimately debuting in 2019.
