The Walking Dead adds another cast member amidst the ensemble shake-up.
It’s been a wild offseason for The Walking Dead. It’s been announced that the shows top-billed star, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) is leaving the show after this season. Whether they’ll kill him off or not is still up in the air. Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene), may join Lincoln in The Walking Dead alumni, but time will tell. Oh, and Shane’s (Jon Bernthal) is coming back in what is sure to be either a flashback or a dream sequence.

Recent The Walking Dead news confirms that Fantastic Beast’s actor Dan Fogler, has been cast for the upcoming season. While actresses Eleanor Matsuura and Lauren Ridloff have been cast as comic characters Yumiko and Connie, Fogler’s role is currently unknown. According to ComicBook, his character is being kept a secret for now. Speculation is that it could be an original character written for season 9.
Fogler’s most notable role is that of Jacob Kowalski from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He will reprise the character in the films upcoming sequel titled The Crimes of Grindewald. You might also recognize Fogler as the protagonist and ping-pong legend Randy Daytona from the 2007 comedy Balls of Fury.
As The Walking Dead takes a few major time jumps, Fogler could really be anyone. From a member of the iconic comic villains the Whisperers, to a citizen of the Commonwealth, keep your eyes peeled for a reveal at San Diego’s Comic Con. Having a background in multiple comedy films, maybe he’ll even be placed into the show for comic relief (for anyone who doesn’t find Eugene funny).

So what role will Fogler play and how significant do you think it will be? A redshirt character who is introduced only to be eaten by walkers two episodes in? A new villain, perhaps? A series regular? The future Rick Grimes? We can only speculate for now, but Fogler will be a welcome addition for what is sure to be a crazy season 9.
