Agents of SHIELD ups Jeff Ward to series regular for season 6
Someone get Deke another case of Zima because Jeff Ward is sticking around for another season on Agents of SHIELD.
After sky-rocketing to popularity on this season of Agents of SHIELD, Jeff Ward has been promoted to series regular. He revealed the good news on San Diego Comic Con during a cast interview with Entertainment Weekly. The promotion won’t come as a surprise to many viewers considering he appeared in a majority of season five.
However, the series will have an interesting time explaining how Deke survived the finale. For those who need a quick refresher: Deke is the grandson of Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and the Leopold Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). The couple forcibly parted ways in the finale, but there was no word of their yet-to-be-born daughter who is also Deke’s mother.
He won’t be the only one returning for season six though. Marvel announced today on Instagram that Clark Gregg would be back to direct the premiere, titled “Missing Pieces”.

Costar, Chloe Bennett, shared her excitement over Gregg’s new job at San Diego Comic Con during an interview with EW.
"“It’s amazing! He’s still the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s really exciting. He directed an episode last year, and he’s always been such a great leader off camera anyway, so it feels totally normal.”"
As great as it is to see Gregg remain a presence on the series, fans mainly want to know if Agent Coulson will be back. If he knows the answer, Gregg certainly isn’t going to share. Entertainment Weekly reported his statement about whether he believed Coulson’s fate in the finale meant a permanent departure from the show.
"“I don’t get any sense that it will. It doesn’t feel weird to me that it might go forward because I don’t know that that’s the case.”"
