Lena Headey wanted ‘better death’ for her Game of Thrones character

Game of Thrones may be over, but people are still weighing in on the controversial final season, including one the show’s biggest stars: Lena Headey.

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan and reading this, chances are you weren’t 100% satisfied with the ending. In the month since the finale episode aired, my friends, family, and I are still discussing it, and what we would change. Even though, I didn’t think the finale was that bad.

One of the things I was dissatisfied with was the way Cersei Lannister died on the show, and it sounds like the actress who portrayed her, Lena Headey, wasn’t too thrilled with her T.V. death either.

According to Deadline, in a recent interview with the Guardian, Headey confessed:

"“I will say I wanted a better death. Obviously, you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So, I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”"

As you know by now, Cersei died in the arms of her twin brother/lover/baby-daddy in the dungeons of the Red Keep.

Cersei was one of the best villains on the show because at some points you hated her, and some points you rooted for her. Ultimately, most fans wanted to see Daenerys or Arya kill her, and some (M.E.!) wanted to see Jaime kill her. But instead, a building killed her.

Not only that, Jaime died, and Daenerys decided to kill everyone in King’s Landing and fully immerse herself in the “Mad Queen” role.

Headey is such an incredible actress, and Cersei was such a strong character. It was hard for me to watch her crumble (see what I did there?) emotionally and practically beg for her life. I would have loved to see an epic death scene because she had done such despicable things throughout the series. She deserved better (or worse?).

Anyway, I feel you, Lena! I agree, she should have gotten a better death because she would have killed it!
