A Discovery of Witches rounds out its season 2 castings and teases fans with new photo.

The second season of the beloved adaptation is well underway with shooting and fans have been eagerly awaiting news. Thankfully, they got their wish with the latest first-look! A Discovery of Witches gives viewers a chance to see Diana and Matthew in their Elizabethan clothing as they walk along the street. For non-book readers, it serves as a bit of a spoiler for the finale, however, book fans have already known that season 2 will be spending a majority of the time in the past.

To be specific, the two are in Blackfriars, the lovely couple’s home during this time. Based on the photo alone, the series has put a lot of work to keep the costumes accurate and build up the beautiful Elizabethan era where they will hide out.

On top of the first-look, A Discovery of Witches completed the castings for its major season 2 characters. The series adds a few exciting names to the group that viewers will undoubtedly be excited to see onscreen.

Steven Cree (Outlander) will play Gallowglass, a vampiric soldier and Matthew’s nephew. He’s incredibly loyal to Matthew and is a bit of a fan-favorite from the novels.

James Purefoy (The Following) will take on the role of Phillipe de Clermont, the infamous step-father to Matthew and mate of Ysabeau. He’s mentioned quite a bit in the first season but isn’t seen because he’s dead by the time the show starts. However, we’ll get to see a bit more of him in the past and perhaps how he came to found the Congregation and the Knights of Lazarus.

Paul Rhys (Victoria) is set as Andrew Hubbard, another vampire who the two meet in the past and is known to be quite terrifying. Jacob Ilfan (Cuffs) is Benjamin Fuchs, Matthew’s eldest vampire son. Elaine Cassidy (Harper’s Island) is Matthew’s sister, Louisa de Clermont. Sheila Hancock (Doctor Who) plays the witch, Goodsy Alsop, who will be integral to Diana’s journey. Newcomer Joshua Pickering will take on Jack Blackfriars, a young boy who Matthew and Diana fall in love with immediately.

Other castings include: Barbara Marten (Casualty) for Queen Elizabeth, Holly Aird (Fear the Walking Dead) for Francoise, Michael Lindall (Deep State) for Sir Walter Raleigh, Adam Sklar (Faceless) for Henry Percy, Victoria Yeates (Call the Midwife) for Elizabeth Jackson, Adrian Rawlins (HBO’s Chernobyl) for William Cecil, Lois Chimimba (Doctor Who) for Catherine Streeter, Amy McAllister (Philomena) for Marjorie Cooper, and Milo Twomey for Pierre.

On top of the new cast, a majority of the season 1 cast is expected to return. Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode will both be back as Diana and Matthew. In the modern time, Alex Kingston (Sarah Bishop), Valarie Pettiford (Em), Lindsay Duncan (Ysabeau), Edward Bluemel (Marcus), Aiysha Hart (Miriam),  Trevor Eve (Gerbert), Owen Teale (Peter Knox), Malin Buska (Satu), and Gregg Chillin (Domenico) will make appearances. Tom Hughes and Adelle Leonce have also been announced for season 2 as Kit Marlowe and Phoebe Taylor.
