True Detective Season Two: Where is Our Fourth Lead?

facebooktwitterreddit

The sometimes exciting, sometimes frustrating progress we’ve seen so far on True Detective’s second season has been something of a roller coaster ride. Information sometimes seems to pour in, but when the smoke clears it turns out that we never really learned that much. Production seems to move forward and then stall. That’s basically the pattern that has gotten us to this point.

Right now we have three confirmed leads. The assumption not too long ago was that we actually had all four down, regardless of a public confirmation. That may no longer be the case, and it could be stalling production. The True Detective team may have not be totally satisfied with their choices — even though the role was publicly offered to Rachel McAdams — communications could have broken down, or perhaps it’s just as simple as a scheduling conflict.

More from HBO

What we can say with some certainty is that if the fourth lead was in the bag, we would have seen some kind of confirmation by now. Both Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch took it upon themselves to announced their True Detective roles. HBO let us know about Vince Vaughn, who has remained silent since the announcement.

Will Rachel McAdams take the final lead role? Maybe, but it could go either way. Something has yet to fall into place with McAdams or either her or HBO would have made an announcement. We’re inching forward toward the January premiere, but it all seems to be going nowhere. At least when it comes to public knowledge.

There are many aspects of production that could go on behind closed doors, but filming won’t begin until the final lead in chosen.
