Consider this a very nice surprise. The Golden Glob nominations were announced this morning, and True Detective is one of the heavy hitters. Not enough has been said of True Detective’s female actors. The two leads, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, have been taking all of the spotlight.

Alexandra Daddario has been interviewed a number of times and even appeared in an issue of GQ, but there have been few to none award nominations for the lades of True Detective.

And that’s a shame.

Many viewers took umbrage with True Detective’s lack of powerful, well-written women, but that doesn’t mean that the actors involved aren’t just as good as our leading men just because their roles are reduced. Monaghan, for example, is a force to be reckoned with in True Detective regardless of whether or not you believe her role to be cliché.

But finally the women of True Detective may get some deserved attention away from the controversy. The competition is fierce in this category, with the likes of Alison Janey and Kathy Bates also nominated. We’ll have to wait and see how everything shakes out.  Here is the full list of nominees for Best Supporting Actress:

  • Uzo Aduba
  • Kathy Bates
  • Joanne Froggatt
  • Alison Janney
  • Michelle Monaghan
