Does True Detective Stand a Better Chance This Award Season?

Award season is starting to role around with the SAG’s and Golden Globes both having announced their official nominations. True Detective has various nominations for both, though in some cases it means another McConaughey and Harrelson face-off.

True Detective was nominated for a fair amount of Emmy’s earlier this summer but that didn’t translate into wins. But True Detective’s chances are looking a little better this time around.

For one, Breaking Bad is now out of the running. Breaking Bad was a a huge show that was expected to, and did, win big at the Emmy’s. Apparently they came as something of a surprise to the Breaking Bad team, who fully expected True Detective to take home the win.

Now that they’re out of the running, True Detective has a much better chance of taking home more awards.

That doesn’t take care of the other drama heavy hitters such as Fargo, Mad Men, and House of Cards, but True Detective has been able to maintain momentum even after so much time having passed since the first season ended. It’s now showing up on plenty of best-of 2014 lists, so it’s not as if people have forgotten it.

Even though Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are going head-to-head for Best Actor, the caches that at least one of them will take it is fairly high. And no offense to Game of Thrones, but there’s no reason to think that the constant snubs won’t continue.

True Detective has a lot going for it right now, and now is its time to shine. This is the last chance that True Detective will have to snag some well-deserved awards for the first season. All we can do is wait and see how it turns out, but there is reason to be excited.
