True Detective’s Opening Credits Rank in Top 10 of 2014
True Detective has one of the most mesmerizing opening credit sequences ever created, and we feel comfortable sticking to our guns on that one. Pieced from haunting imagery and the perfect use of music, True Detective’s title sequence is practically un-skippable.
Art of the Title agrees, as they have named True Detective’s title sequence as one of the best of 2014. Art of the Title collects the best title sequences out there and gives more in-depth information about their creation. It’s a fascinating blog, but it’s also an easy way to lose an entire afternoon.
The titles of True Detective have inspired numerous spoofs and mashups with the likes of The Big Lebowski, Law and Order, and The Wire. You know you’ve done something right when something is spoofed that many times.

Art of the Title’s list is unranked and includes both TV series and films, so True Detective is in good and varied company.
Other titles that made the list are the Godzilla reboot, The Lego Movie, the credits to the video game Alien: Isolation (a personal favorite) and the now infamous Adult Swim “Infomercial,” Too Many Cooks.
It’s going to be difficult to top the first season’s credits when True Detective returns for a second season. Hopefully they take it as something of a challenge and give us something just as worthy of discussion.
The title sequence isn’t something that gets a lot of attention, but True Detective’s demands it from you. Here’s hoping that season two and beyond brings us something just as memorable.
