This Week in True Detective is a new feature that aims to bring you the best True Detective happenings of the week. This could include breaking news, popular articles, or anything else that people found interesting or may have missed.

Another weekend is upon us, and that means it’s time to check back on what happened with True Detective during this past week. This week was filled to the brim with awards news, with True Detective being nominated for another upcoming award. Oh, and there is the small matter of the Golden Globes.

So let’s get started.

  • The Golden Globes were this past Sunday, January 11th. True Detective lost in every category it was nominated in, leading us to wonder why Fargo was able to beat the odds and pull ahead. It’s not a simple as bad luck.
  • This week also saw possibly the first major push in promotion for True Detective’s second season. A cartoonist received a mysterious package and several letters alluding to The King in Yellow and more. A possible tease of what’s to come, but also still an unconfirmed rumor.
  • The Golden Globes saw a small gathering of True Detective actors Matthew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, and creator Nic Pizzolatto. They apparently talked for almost an hour. The Golden Globes was the first time that we’ve seen Vaughn since filming began on True Detective’s second season.
  • In other award news, it was announced that Mathew McConaughey will be a presenter at the upcoming SAG awards and True Detective has been nominated for a DGA award.

And that’s your True Detective week. We’ll reconvene here next Friday with another digest of what’s been going on with True Detective. If a promo package for True Detective season two is truly out in the wild, it won’t be too much longer until an actual promotional push starts.
