True Detective Season Two: Four Things We Know

facebooktwitterreddit

The second season of True Detective has been in production for several months but not that much is known about the finer details. We’ve seen many leaked photos from the set but we’ve had a surprisingly little amount of information come in from HBO or the True Detective camp.

So instead of focusing on the things that we don’t know, perhaps it’s time to focus on what we do know. Without further ado, here is everything we know concerning the production and the plot including character overviews.

Maybe after reading our catchup the time until season two’s premiere will seem to fly by. But probably not.

4. Vince Vaughn is a Villain Trying to Turn Legit

Vince Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a criminal in danger of losing everything when an attempt to turn legit goes awry. Vaughn is not known for his dramatic chops, but that certainly doesn’t mean that he isn’t up to the task. As the major villain, Vaughn has a heavy weight in his shoulders.

The best stories are anchored by great villains. We’ve seen multiple leaked photos of Vince Vaughn on set, including the one above. Vaughn was also the first to break the seal of silence surrounding True Detective by granting an interview to Playboy. Even though we didn’t learn much, he did reiterate that season two will be “very different.”

3. Everybody Has Problems

Much like the first season of True Detective, the second season leads will all have their own issues to work through. As Ani Bezzerides, Rachel McAdams will play a series sheriff suffering from gambling addiction. Taylor Kitsch, playing veteran highway patrol cop Paul Woodrugh suffers from PTSD. Also, there’s a sex scandal.

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro also has his fair share of problems as a cop put it in a difficult situation. Personal problems are practically a theme of True Detective, as both Woody Harrelson as Marty Hart and Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle suffered their own issues in the first season.

The first season ended up being more about the detectives themselves than the actual case they were working on, so it’s possible that this season will turn out the same way.

2. They’re Still Filming

True Detective season two has been filming since September, possibly on and off. Vince Vaughn recently took a small break for charity, but otherwise things have been chugging along for the past several months. It wasn’t until recently that we got our first look of Rachel McAdams on set, which is leading us to believe that there may have been delays on her part.

We have no premiere date for True Detective yet, nor have we had any teasers or posters. HBO is not yet ready to push the button on the ad campaign for True Detective, but we’re expecting it to kick off this Spring at the absolute latest.

1. Colin Farrell is Missing a Mustache

Believe it or not, but one of the biggest pieces of news about True Detective has been Colin Farrell’s mustache. He sported this new look back in September and was even asked about it in an interview with the LA Times. Now, however, it appears to be gone.

To many this may not seem like a big deal, but it seems to point to a major character change. It may also mean that they’re almost finished filming and Farrell’s character is set to go mustache-less for the finale. Out of all the leaked photos we’ve seen so far, the Mustache-less Colin Farrell may be the most important one.
