This Week in True Detective: Looking Back Edition

This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.

This past week was all about looking back on True Detective’s past. Without much to go in terms of season three, the focus has been on season two. Not even the people behind True Detective can let season two go, but we’ll get to that later. True Detective also nabbed an award nomination, but which one? Oh, the suspense. It kills.

First up, let’s talk about True Detective season two supporters. This past week saw two new ones pop up, one in the form of the blog bare*bones and the other from the film blog One Perfect Shot. Both profess to have actually liked True Detective season two, in case you’re starting to doubt that people like that are actually out there.

We also saw some pretty great True Detective fan creations this week. A fan made an incredible poster that blows all of the originals away. Seriously. Some insane brilliant persona mashed up Ace Ventura: Pet Detective with the first season of True Detective. There’s not really anything else to say about it. Just watch it. Finally, Jimmy Kimmel created a mashup of Sesame Street and True Detective to celebrate Sesame Street’s arrival on HBO.

More from HBO

Discovery’s new series, Killing Fields, looks to be straight-up clone of True Detective. Except for the fact that is also has plenty in common with documentary series like The Jinx. Speaking of being based on actual events, we pondered whether or not season three will go that route.

HBO boss Doug Lombardo decided that enough was enough and took the blame for what happened with True Detective season two. In reality he just answered a question in an interview, but it was commendable of him to be so candid. When True Detective does move on to season three, the question of how long the wait to be has become a little less clear, if that was even possible.

Finally, True Detective season two scored a nomination from the Producer’s Guild. Nobody told them that the proper thing to do would be to ignore True Detective entirely. Its chances are almost moot, but it’s still nice to see some recognition.

Next: Matthew McConaughey will play a Civil War-era farmer.

And as always, Twitter and Facebook are your friend if you want to chat this weekend.
