True Detective Competitor Sharp Objects Set to Take the Scene
Not that much is actually going on in True Detective land at the moment, but you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise with all the award talk going on. Outside of the Oscars, which is film only, True Detective has been nominated for every award this season. That’s also taking into account its total loss at the Golden Globes.
But while True Detective’s second season continues to move forward at its own pace, that hasn’t stopped other series from moving forward. Enter Sharp Objects, a potential new series that’s already being compared to True Detective.

Sharp Objects is based on the Gillian Flynn — writer of Gone Girl — novel of the same name. In a recent interview with MTV, showrunner Marti Noxon drew her own True Detective parallels.
Noxon is most famous for working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in case any of you out there were wondering why that name seemed slightly familiar.
"“I think that in this era of “True Detective,” and these series that really delve into some pretty gnarly places… That’s where TV really excels. There’s a tolerance for particularly dark female characters.”"
Sharp Objects is the story of a journalist cover a series of murders in her hometown, so it defiantly has the True Detective vibe set up from the get-go. Sharp Objects could in fact be True Detective with a female edge, which is sort of the direction that Noxon is indicating.
Considering True Detective’s own rocky past with writing female characters it will be interesting to see how the two compare when the time comes. Sharp Objects does not currently have a network or premiere date.
