This Week in True Detective is a feature that aims to bring you the best True Detective happenings of the week. This could include breaking news, popular articles, or anything else that people found interesting or may have missed.

True Detective is in full-on hibernation mode, and will likely be so at least until sometime in the fall. That means that now is the best time to get serious with the speculation, and that’s just what we did. Even though no new rumors came in this past week, we took it upon ourselves to create some new ones. Not really, but sort of.

Let’s get to it.

More from HBO

It’s super early days for True Detective season three, and just because HBO has not yet publicly renewed it doesn’t mean that it’s not happening. In fact, it very likely is happening. Some shows, usually the mega-hits, are renewed almost instantly. For others, it takes a bit of time. Count True Detective in that second camp. Nic Pizzolatto will also have to let his characters open up and grow a bit more when season three does come around, an issue that the’s had problems with in the past.

We saw some great True Detective fan creations this week. In fact, they both count as two of the best that we have ever seen, so take that for what it’s worth. First off, the first season credits were meticulously re-created in Grand Theft Auto V. We would add “for some reason,” but it’s so good it deserves better than that. A fan also submitted to us a trailer for True Detective’s two seasons, and it also ranks right up there. Both are must see as far as we’re concerned.

Cary Fukunaga talked about returning to television with The Alienist, a project that he may be looking to get some directorial assistance with. Continuing with the theme of projects outside True Detective, Rachel McAdams confirmed that she’ll be joining the Marvel machine in the upcoming Doctor Strange. A move like that could indicate a healthy branching out of film roles.

Finally, we took a look at three possible actors for True Detective season three. It’s the return of our Dream Cast series, and will be running for the foreseeable future. If your favorite actor didn’t make the cut, let us know! And, as always, if you want to dish on True Detective this weekend you can reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter.
