This Week in True Detective is a feature that aims to bring you the best True Detective happenings of the week. This could include breaking news, popular articles, or anything else that people found interesting or may have missed.
This past week didn’t have all that much True Detective news, but it did have small bits for those involved with True Detective. There was, however, one juicy news item that hasn’t seemed to have gained much traction. Believe me, it’s a good one. Without further ado, let’s get it going.

First up, True Detective season two is releasing on Blu-Ray/DVD this January. It will contain a half hour documentary-style making of the deadly shootout that takes place in Vinci. Commonly referred to by fans by either the “Vinci Shootout” or the “Vinci Massacre,” fans will get all the juicy details on how it was to stage and shoot. There’s a nice preview to whet the appetite.
Cary Fukunaga signed a two-year production deal with Paramount Television, but there’s no real reason to think that he’ll be ditching films. Hey, he could even find himself back with True Detective at some point in the future.
Matthew McConaughey will star in two animated movies next year, marking his first foray into cartoon territory. One of those, Sing, will see him take on the role of a down on his luck koala. We all know how that goes, right? With his unique way of speaking, it’s a wonder that he hasn’t done animated work n the past.

True Detective treats each season as a separate entity, but should it try switching to a shared universe? Something along the lines of what Fargo does now. It could potentially create a deeper connection for fans, and it wouldn’t even have to be overt to pull it off.
Finally, Steve Golin, head of Anonymous Content, the producers of True Detective, gave a talk while at an international film festival. He touched on True Detective and was candid about its issues, but also let it drop that they’re working on season three. This is the first we’ve heard of True Detective season three from an at least semi-official source.
