This Week in True Detective: New Year Edition
This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.
It’s a new year, but somehow True Detective has managed to become a major talking point again. Considering how little has been done on True Detective season three, 2016 isn’t expected to be the year of True Detective. No matter, since there is still plenty to talk about, like how some brave soul actually stood up to defend season two. No, really.

Machinima, an outlet known mostly for their video game coverage, put together their very own best of 2015 television list. Shockingly, not only did they call out True Detective haters for jumping on an easy bandwagon, but they also totally loved the season. We also took a look at whether season three, whenever it arrives, will be as darkly pessimistic as season two.

Dwelling on season two, it’s time to admit that there is absolutely no way that it’s going be nominated for an Emmy. It would be a huge upset if True Detective scored even one nomination considering how mainstream it is to hate and its lack of nominations at other awards. But who cares when fans are sticking up for season two and creating incredible art like this.
Talking about best of lists again, The New York Post made it known that they also didn’t like True Detective. To be totally fair, they also thought the first season was overrated. For all the conversations that season two sparked (whether good or bad) it wasn’t enough to crack the top 10 ratings for 2015 television shows. Season three, however, may be able to do better.
Looking to season three, Nic Pizzolatto would be crazy to not hire more writers. Nothing has been announced, but expect to see more names in the credits next time around. Finally, a brave Boston improvisation group will be performing a True Detective parody this month called True Defective: Season Three. Oh, yes.
